Spotlight on: Picayune Strand State Forest
The fourth largest and southernmost State Forest in Florida, Picayune Strand State Forest is in the heart of the Big Cypress Basin. Marked by a landscape of cypress strands, wet prairie and pine flatwoods, Picayune Strand State Forest provides habitat for a wide variety of wildlife, including many threatened and endangered species like the Florida panther. Though the animal is elusive, its tracks can be found throughout the forest.
