Citrus black spot is a fungal disease marked by dark necrotic spots or blotches on the rinds of fruit. It produces early fruit drop, reduces crop yields and, if not controlled, renders the highly blemished fruit unmarketable.

Symptoms of the exotic disease citrus black spot were first detected during a Citrus Health Response Plan Multipest Survey in Valencia sweet oranges in the Immokalee area on March 8, 2010. Since this find, the first in North America, Citrus Black Spot has been found in commercial groves in Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry, Lee, Manatee and Polk Counties.
