Located on the grounds of the Florida Forest Service’s Withlacoochee Training Center near Brooksville, the Florida Wildland Firefighter Memorial was dedicated in 1985 following the death of South Florida Forest Ranger Marco Miranda, the third fireline death in the agency’s history. The memorial was redesigned and rededicated in 2011 on the same site, and it stands today as both a tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others and as a symbol of the strong ties that bind all wildland firefighters together.
