The majority of the land within Withlacoochee State Forest is included in Florida's Wildlife Management Area (WMA) program and offers seasonal hunting opportunities. Fishing is a popular activity on the Withlacoochee's waterways, where largemouth bass and panfish are frequently caught. Hunting and fishing on Withlacoochee State Forest are regulated by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC).
Hunt camps are open only during designated hunts for licensed hunters. Overnight and permit camping are allowed at designated areas only.

Online registration for the Open Hunt Camp season reservation drawing closed on September 9, 2026.
The drawing will begin at 9 a.m. on September 10, 2026. Selected registrants will be contacted via phone for available open hunt camp selection. Payment for hunt camp sites by selected registrants will be online via Reserve America.
Open Hunt Camp seasonal reservations not paid/confirmed by September 28, 2026, will be available by contacting the Withlacoochee Visitor Center at (352) 797-4140.
