In 2013, the Florida Legislature amended Chapter 388.261, Florida Statutes, thereby providing the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) authority to distribute mosquito control funding provided through legislative appropriations from the state’s Solid Waste Trust Fund. It was further amended to include a provision that provides a portion of the allocated funds to specifically support research into practical methods of mosquito control for the benefit of all Florida mosquito control programs. In doing so, the legislature also opened the door to all Florida public colleges and universities to compete for funding that would benefit public health mosquito control operations statewide.
Each year the Florida Coordinating Council on Mosquito Control (FCCMC) identifies and ranks mosquito control research priorities that are to be the focus of the proposals submitted each year. The Research Selection Subcommittee and FDACS evaluate the proposals in accordance with priorities identified by the FCCMC.
Who Is Eligible to Apply?
Any Florida public college or university interested in providing applied research in the following:
- Practical methods of control to be used by local mosquito control agencies, and/or
- Research in the prevention of mosquito-borne illnesses.
How Do I Apply?
This program will accept proposals intended for the fiscal year 2026-2027 from February 14-April 15, 2026, by close of business.
