Energy education kits are designed to help students gain hands-on STEM skills.

K-12 schools and school-age childcare facilities — as referenced in Section 65C-22.008(1), Florida Administrative Code (F.A.C.) — can apply for energy education kits designed to help students develop teamwork and problem-solving abilities, investigate environmental issues and gain hands-on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) skills.

Energy Curricula and Learning Kits

The Energy Curricula and Learning Kits complement the Solar Matters (Grades K-2, 3-5 and 6-8) and Understanding Solar Energy (9-12) activity units developed by the Florida Solar Energy Center. Energy Curricula and Learning Kits include wires, motors, milliamp meters, multi-testers, propellers, UV detecting beads, thermometers, prisms, videos, watt meters, reference books, career guides, and various types and sizes of photovoltaic panels.

Eligibility

The applicant must be a Florida school either active with the Master School Identification (MSID) list or registered on the Florida School Choice Office of Independent Education and Parental Choice database, or have a designated Florida License to Operate a School-Age Childcare Facility as referenced in Section 65C-22.008(1), F.A.C. School-age childcare facility applicants must include a copy of the active license or a license exemption letter (pursuant to Section 65C-22.008(3)(d), F.A.C.) as designated by the Florida Department of Children and Families. K-12 schools can apply for a kit from each level (elementary, middle and high school) for a total of three kits. School-age childcare facilities must provide educational program documentation to support the request for each school-level kit. 

Application Process

Fill out the Energy Education Kits application form [ Adobe PDF Document ]. All fields in the application must be complete and the application must be signed by the school’s principal or the director/owner of the school-age childcare facility, as applicable. The signature must be original. Applicants licensed to operate a school-age childcare facility must include a copy of their active license with the application. Submit the complete and signed application to Energy@FDACS.gov or mail to:

Availability

Energy education kits are available on a first-come, first-served basis based on the date and time that a properly completed application is received.
