Tracheal, oropharyngeal, choanal, nasal, or infraorbital sinus swabs in 3 ml of transport medium with no antibiotics for pools of up to 5 birds or respiratory tissue; shipped chilled overnight.

Dry swab from individual bird. Moist swabs are preferred; it its recommended to add 1-2 drops of sterile saline to the swab and place in a leakproof and sterile container; shipped chilled overnight.

Use synthetic swabs with a plastic handle. Avoid cotton or calcium alginate swabs or swabs with wooden handles.

Tests run Tuesday and Friday.
