The Honey Bee Diagnostics Laboratory supports Florida beekeepers and the apiary industry.
The Honey Bee Diagnostics Laboratory (HBDL) at the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ Division of Plant Industry supports Florida beekeepers and the apiary industry.
The HBDL applies traditional and molecular tools to diagnose bacterial, viral and fungal pathogens as well as arthropod pests affecting honey bee health, including regulatory disease and pest issues like American foulbrood, Africanized honey bee, Tropilaelaps and unidentified biotic factors. The rapid diagnostic testing used by the lab assists management decision-making and strengthens the health of Florida apiaries.
