The council advises FDACS on the regulation of the private investigative, recovery and private security industries in Florida.

The Private Investigation, Recovery and Security Council advises FDACS and makes recommendations relative to the regulation of the security, investigative and recovery industries.

The council operates under the authority of Section 493.6104, Florida Statutes (F.S.).

Membership Requirements

Members include:

• One active law enforcement officer, certified under the Florida Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission, representing a statewide law enforcement agency or association
• One owner or operator of a business that regularly contracts with Class “A,” Class “B,” or Class “R” agencies
• Nine members who are licensed under Chapter 493, F.S., and geographically distributed across the state, including:
  • Two members from the security profession, with at least one representing an agency that employs 20 or fewer security guards
  • Two members from the private investigative profession, with at least one representing an agency that employs five or fewer investigators
  • One member from the repossession profession
  • Four members from any of the professions regulated under Chapter 493
